Wonderful idea. The stories of many can paint a such a beautiful nuanced whole picture. By definition creativity is using original ideas and bringing something new into the world. Each creative mother brings a unique take on their own. Compiling many stories will be incredible to read. Fantastic.

Thank you Rae! I feel the same. I'm so excited about being this to life. πŸ’«

I’m very excited about this. And also thrilled to learn that someone else hasn’t been able to connect to the artists way (I found some of the writing to be outdated even if the practice advice is sound, but challenging as you describe) even if I like Cameron’s work in general.

Well, it is a really old book now! It had some revolutionary ideas for the time, but it's also really rigid and definitely not for everyone.

This is amazing. I love the approach that everyone had a different system that will work for them and giving voice to that. Beautiful.

I would love to submit! But first, I just want to share that as a new mum, I once tried to knit and was so tired I couldn’t even keep track of what the last row had been. It was utterly fascinating and demoralizing to be unable to get my brain to function.

isn't it weird? things you used to be able to do - and all of a sudden you are totally incapable!

The more I’ve read about it the more I understand our body puts different parts of our brain online... but yes it’s very odd!! 🧢✨

This reminds me of trying to bake postpartum and dropping an egg that cracked on the floor. I have a photo somewhere. Sleep deprivation is real! πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

I’m new to exploring Substack (so new I haven’t even written a profile yet!) and it’s lovely to read this. I definitely found my writing habits changed when I became a mum 6 years ago - and I’m constantly adapting my expectations of myself and what I think I can achieve with my time.

Yes, exactly! Every time I find something that works it all changes again. πŸ˜‚

This is so purpose driven and the alignment of the medium with the message is so 'right'.

It all clicked into place within the anthology framework. Sometimes "procrastination" is giving time for the idea to mature and find it's right shape. πŸ’«

Well, this is timely. I stopped trying to do the Artist’s way yesterday haha. It’s just not a fit and I was trying to force it. I now feel doubly validated in my decision - thanks! 😊 Hmmm, I’m not sure I can manage by the deadline as I haven’t anything on this in progress but I’ll think on it and see if something emerges quickly, or not. I love the concept so I will think on it ; )

It's definitely not just you! The Artist's Way is like Marmite. πŸ˜‚ (Are you for or against Marmite BTW?)

I would love for you to submit! There's no length requirement so it can be something short. I want some shorter pieces and poems throughout for mums who are a bit sleep deprived and want to dip in and out.

Haha no marmite! Well, last night I looked over some pieces I’ve written in the past and it looks like I can do some reshaping, rewriting and editing to create a lyric/braided essay that fits the theme so I’m going to work on that ; ) I’m actually quite glad to have the prompt to do some writing as I’m ready to do some.
