This is a fantastic idea. I didn't know that Feedly was still around. I thought it closed awhile ago.

I did too! Was pleased to find it still going and still connected to all the blogs I used to follow. 🤯

Thank you for the link to my post, it’s a way of thinking that’s helped me so much, I really want to share it with others who might benefit too! 🙏💜

I really like obsidian, but I’ve never had the patience to learn how to make the most of it (although I did use it for a dnd campaign a while ago and it worked pretty well). I’m interested to hear how you get on.

I’ve been thinking about how I use Substack too, I’ve had a lot of overwhelm for the last couple of weeks so have hardly read anything. Trying to balance my FOMO with my capacity to read is tricky, but I probably need to rationalise my subs. Maybe an rss feed is the answer 🤔

(or I just stop reading anything else until I’ve finished Wheel of Time)

I watched a few videos to get the basics, but it can do a lot I don’t need. I like how notes can link to each other and be organized with tags and it’s all saved locally instead of being hosted within a 3rd party app. I’m still in the hyperfocus phase so we will see how it functions over time. My goal is to not over complicate it so it can be useful when I want to save something, but don’t have ages to fill in a database like I tried before on Notion.

How far are you in WoT?!

I’m halfway through path of daggers, can’t believe I’ve never read them before. I’m loving them, the world building and characters are so rich.

I am not looking forward to the book hangover I get when I’m finished, it might be worse than when I finished Robin Hobbs fitz and the fool

Also I've been really missing the old chat room vibes and the ability to find your community and connection there. Doesn't feel like it's a thing any more and Discord is far too noisy for me. I used to spend way too many hours on a No Doubt chat room they had for their Rock Steady Album etc. I was also a massive user of MSN messenger etc. I'm definitely feeling nostalgic about all that though but that boils down to a desire to connect - just not in person 😂

It’s so funny we each flourish in our own environments. I could never do chat rooms, but I loved a message board.

I thought Discord was overstimulating at first, but I was in a massive group. When I was invited to a cozy one it won me over. But I still prefer ye olde message boards for having a specific conversation with a container around it.

New Internet (socials & Discord) is a feed that’s constantly moving like a river. It always feels like stepping into a conversation that started without you.

100% to your last point, it also feels like it gets (can get) lost in the sea of noise. Is Reddit the 'new' Uber message board? I feel it's not a thing anymore or perhaps I've just not come across any...

Thank you for sharing about feedly here! I had searched it after you told me you were using it and got overwhelmed, but I'm trying again now and it feels easier this time.

I felt like that with Discord. Sometimes the timing has to be right. 💫

Yes! I still only use discord with my and my partner's one group of friends, because I just don't really get it😂

I was in some massive groups at first and completely overwhelmed. I’m in 2-3 tiny groups now and it feels like a quiet cozy space to connect.

There's so many things in this I love!! The things you have been working on admist less time writing on substacks - so much joy here! You also reminded me I wanted to try baking my own bread so I'm going to go do that as soon as I finish this comment. Also, the amount of great links you shared - I'm hooked on it all! And lastly, can we just admire that antique secretary for a little longer....
