Thanks for commenting. I’m glad to hear this resonated. I think a lot of autistic people struggle within neurotypical gender roles. I just find the whole concept ridiculous because throughout history and geographically what is feminine of masculine changes or in fact switches. I wish we had more space for everyone to safely express themselves.

Thank you Zoe. I resonate with all of this. There are so many layers to it and it's all tangled up and interconnected. For me this feels like another layer of unmasking. When I hear nonbinary people tell their stories it is the same feeling I have in community with autistic people. There's such a spectrum of individuality, but there is also a shared experience there. Celebrating your queerness as well! You are you no matter who you are in relationship with. 💫🏳️‍🌈

Wow, thanks for articulating this, Zoe. I just wrote a comment saying I've also been thinking a lot about the intersection of my queerness and definite (but undiagnosed) neurodivergence, and I hadn't even thought about what you're saying here re: the sensory aspect.

DEFINITELY, that has affected my choice in clothing, which in turn is an absolutely distinct part of how I regulate and understand my own gender, as well as how I know others usually believe I present.

The latter aspect, I also so agree with, and surprisingly, it's a fact I feel I've been at so much peace with most of my life. We feel so much and we therefore can't help but be so colorful. It's always seemed like, in a great night sky, where the stars are twinkling but relatively uniform, I simply can't help but be some sparkly, dazzling supernova when I very usually and naturally tend to be. I see I'm different, stick out so much, but for all the OTHER doubts and fears, it is clear (and therefore peaceful) that this is who I am.

So lovely to read your thoughts here. Lots to chew on for me. Thank you :)

Thank you so much for sharing this, Sarah! 🧡 🌈 All your "what if" questions are a beautiful approach to a world where we can all be whatever we are, together--even if we're all different to each other. I support you and I love you and I'm here for every minute of you being authentically yourself. ✨

🌈🥳Congratulations, and thank you for trusting us with this part of you! To anybody that tries to challenge any parts of how you identify (ie nonbinary but also as a mother) – the way my (cis) brain sees it is that this is YOUR identity and therefore YOU get to define what that means for you.

I hope that those who are important to you are loving and supportive, and that those who are not important to you are either loving and supportive or have the decency keep their mouths shut about something that does not affect them. ♥
